Esta noche tenemos el placer de presentaros una
entrevista muy esperada y deseada sobre todo. Fue hace algo más de un año
cuando saltaron a la fama con su primer lanzamiento oficial, y todo ello con el
apoyo total SIZE y Steve Angello. Ellos se hacen llamar Highly Sedated, y
compuesto de cinco miembros están revolucionando la escena con un sonido propio
muy particular donde nos dejan pinceladas más rockeras dentro de un mundo
electrónico donde intentar mandar un contenido especial y diferente. Se llaman
Sebastian, Verner, Patrick, Leo y Hannes y hoy responden nuestras preguntas.

Wololo Sound: Antes de nada
empezaremos por vuestros comienzos, antes de formar como grupo profesional. ¿Desde
hace cuánto y cómo os conocisteis?
Highly Sedated: Wow, es una larga historia. Sebastian y Verner se
conocieron hace unos 10 años en un bar de Estocolmo por que tenían amigos en
común. Hannes y Patrick se conocieron en una sesión de fotos hace 9 años y
también han sido muy cercanos desde entonces. Y Patrick y Verner son del mismo
barrio de Estocolmo y se han conocido desde siempre. Leo, que es de Vilnius,
nos conoció a los demás hace dos años y desde entonces ha sido uno más.
-I want to start from your beginnings, before the music group landed. How long do you know each other and how did you meet for the first time?Wow, well long story! Sebastian and Verner met over 10 years ago at their local bar in Stockholm and had mutual friends. Hannes and Patrick met during a photo shoot 9 years ago and have been close ever since. While Patrick and Verner come from the same Stockholm suburb and have known each other forever.Leo, being from Vilnius, met the rest for the first time 2 years ago and it's been love ever since.
WS: ¿Cuando
decidisteis empezar como Highly Sedated profesionalmente? Y, ¿de donde viene este nombre artístico?
HS: Bueno todos hemos estado creando nuestras obras, en
diferentes campos, desde hace mucho tiempo. Pero realmente no habíamos
trabajado juntos en la forma que queríamos. Así que hace dos años sentimos que
era el momento justo de unirnos como ‘Voltron’.
El nombre sinceramente viene de la primera canción que
hicimos juntos. Es como vemos a la sociedad hoy en día. La gente está altamente sedada. Eclipsada por
las pantallas, los reality shows, azúcar, etc. Nosotros solo queremos poder
aportar algo a este mundo lleno de comida rápida y Donald Trump.
-When did you decide to start Highly Sedated professionally? And, I'm curious, where did this name come from?We had all been mastering our crafts, in various fields, for a long time. But we hadn't really worked together in the way we wanted to. So about two years ago we felt that the time was right for us to form like Voltron.The name actually comes from the first song we made together.It's how we see today's society. People are highly sedated.Numbed down by screens, reality shows, sugar etc.We just hope we can bring some substance to a world full of fast food and Donald Trump.
WS: ¿Fue el apoyo de
Steve y de Size al completo determinante para lanzaros con este proyecto? ¿Qué
otras referencias tenéis a parte del boss?
HS: A Steve le encantó y se interesó por nosotros cuando
Hannes le enseñó algo de nuestro material mientras se movían por Los Angeles.
Estuvimos hablando pero nunca pensamos que él nos firmaría y nos daría total
libertad de creación. Fue demasiado bueno para ser verdad y todavía lo es.
En nuestras referencias hay de todo desde The Doors,
Wu-Tang, Guns n Roses hasta Aphex Twins y Radiohead. Somos muy diferentes los
cinco y nuestra música es solo lo que resulta de ser nosotros mismos en ese
aspecto.
-Was it the support of Steve Angello, one of the biggest names in the industry, and all the Size team determinant to begin with this project? And which are your music referents (apart from Steve of course hahaha)?Steve loved it and got interested when Hannes played some of our stuff to him while driving around LA. We got to talking and we never thought he would sign us and give us total creative freedom. It was too good to be true and still is!Music references are everything from The Doors, Wu-Tang, Guns n Roses to Aphex Twins and Radiohead. We are so different the 5 of us and our music is just what really happens as a result of us being us.
WS: Recientemente habéis lanzado vuestro cuarto trabajo con grandísimos resultados, 'Last Call'. ¿Cómo es trabajar en el estudio cinco personas y ponerse de acuerdo en a donde enfocar la siguiente producción? ¿Buscáis transmitir algún tipo de mensaje en cada tema?
HS: Las cosas nacen y se crean de forma diferente en
cada track. Patrick escribe letras todo el tiempo y Leo trabaja continuamente
creando beats y demos. Entonces cuando conocimos a Vernes, él venía con nuevas
ideas y letras, igual que Hannes y Sebastian, que también las tienen por su
cuenta y hay que intentar unirlas. Es todo muy fluido, algunas canciones tienen
más de unos y otras de otros.
Siempre intentamos darle algún significado a nuestras
canciones. ‘Last Call’ fue hecha después de que sentimos que la humanidad se
iba a romper y nuestras oportunidades de salvarla cada vez eran menores. No
podemos seguir abusando de este planeta más. Nuestra última llamada.
-Recently you have released your fourth track with excellent results, 'Last Call'. How is it to work five different persons in the study with different ideas, and agree on how to focus the song? Are you looking to transmit some message or a story on your tracks?Things grow differently on different tracks. Patrick writes lyrics all of the time and Leo constantly works on beats and demos. Then when we meet Verner has ideas and lyrics and Hannes and Sebastian have ideas of their own to be applied or thought of. It's very organic and some songs are more pushed by some and so on.We always try to have some meaning to our songs. Last Call was made after we felt like humanity was going to pieces and our chances were running low. We can't keep on abusing this planet any longer. Our last call.
WS: Algo que ha
llamado la atención es la mezcla de artes en vuestros lanzamientos. A parte de
lo musical, también enfocáis con la pintura en vuestros artworks algo diferente
gracias a artistas como Sara, Zach, Sohan Qadri y John Clark. ¿Como habéis
elegido a cada pintor para cada uno de vuestros trabajos?
HS: Realmente queremos
enfocarnos en el arte análogo. Trabajar con buenos artistas que compartan
nuestro amor y pensamientos en lo más importante. Cosas que puedas tocar y ver,
que no solo sean creadas en pantalla. Tenemos con estos artistas que mencionas
algún tipo de relación, así que esta gente es parte de la extensa familia
Highly Sedated.
-Something to have caught the attention is the mix between arts in your tracks. Apart from the music, you try to do something with the paint on your artworks thanks to people like Sara, Zach, Sohan Qadri and John Clark. How do you find these artists and how do you choose them?We want to really focus on analogue art. Working with great artist that shares our love for the real deal. Things you can touch and see that's not just created on a screen. We have with the artists you mention above some sort of personal relation to. So these people are all a part of the Highly Sedated extended family.
WS: Ahora hablaremos sobre vuestros futuros proyectos. En vuestro guest mix en R1 Residency escuchamos otros tres nuevos temas como 'Now', 'Burn' o 'Wasted Youth'. ¿Formarán parte de vuestro primer álbum o sadrá alguno a la luz antes?
HS: Si, esos tres
temas formarán parte de nuestro álbum.
-Now it's time to talk about you future projects. In your R1 Residency guest mix, we listened other three new tracks (four in that time) like 'Now', 'Burn' or 'Wasted Youth'. Are these tracks part of your beginning first album? Or can someone be released before the big date?
Those three tracks will be part of our album.
WS: Y hablando del
álbum. ¿Cómo lo lleváis? ¿Podéis adelantar alguna noticia con respecto a él
para vuestros fans?
HS: Esperamos
lanzarla a final de Mayo o principios de Junio. Los temas están ya terminados y
hay todavía que terminar algún mastering. Después nos quedará el artwork y los
temas de negocios.
-And talking about the album, how are you doing it? Any news that you can advance for your fans? Is still 2017 the date for the release?
We hope to be releasing it end of May beginning of June. The tracks just got finished and have some mastering still to do and then we have artwork and the business aspect left. Expect it before the summer!!
WS - Si dejamos de
lado el estudio y la producción, todavía no hemos podido disfrutar de vuestra
parte en live. ¿Cuándo tendremos la oportunidad de asistir a un show vuestro?
HS - Estamos
trabajando en ello ahora mismo. Prometemos manteneros informados ;)
-Before we end, I want to set aside the production side. We still couldn't enjoy your live performance and personally cannot wait to do it. When will we have the opportunity to assist one of your shows?
